AIA Ohio Seeks to Maintain Architect’s Talents/Influence

Kasich Proposal would Merge SAO with OSFC

Part of the Kasich Administration’s Mid Biennium Review (MBR) Proposal, Sub. HB 487 would merge the State Architects Office (SAO) with the Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC) forming a new Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC).

AIA Ohio was aware of the possible merger prior to the introduction of HB 487 and initiated a series of in-person meetings and conversations with OSFC Director, Rick Hickman, OSFC Construction Reform Program Director, Craig Weise AIA, State Architect, Lane Beougher, AIA, Senator Chris Widener, FAIA, his staff and other design and construction interests. These conversations are on going and address the Administration’s rationale for the merger as well as AIA Ohio’s desire to preserve the State Architect’s important roles and to maintain the talent, influence and visibility only architects can bring to the construction process.

AIA Ohio State Grassroots: Architect as Citizen…Architect as Advocate

APPPROVED FOR 3 LEARNING UNITS. REGISTER TODAY

You’ve heard the saying, “If you’re not at the table, you’ll be on the menu!”

AIA Ohio has planned a State Grassroots Presentation that will focus on ways architects can make sure they are at the legislative table, not on the menu.  Join AIA Ohio members and architect leaders in Columbus, Ohio, on May 25 for the AIA Ohio State Grassroots Presentation, “Architect as Citizen…Architect as Advocate.”  Attendees will hear from Senator Chris Widener, FAIA, who will discuss the Architect’s role in communicating with elected officials, and the most effective ways architects can get involved in the legislative process.  Several statewide candidates for elected office have been invited to participate as well.  In the afternoon, participants will learn how to put on a Candidate Forum or Debate in your local component (or at your firm!) and have it be meaningful to architects.

Plan now to participate.  It’s easy to register, just click here.  The cost is only $15 per person.  Register by Friday, May 18 to ensure your place at the table!

AIA Ohio Triple Play Program

AIA Ohio PAC – Our “Triple Play” program allows individuals to take up to a $50 tax credit (or $100 on joint returns) for personal contributions made to the campaigns of state office holders. Our AIA-Ohio PAC matches the member’s contribution and sends a letter to the candidate asking him/her to use the contributing architect as a sounding board for design/construction legislation. To participate, send a copy of a check written to a candidate for state office along with the triple play form to AIA Ohio PAC (17 S. High St., Ste. 200, Columbus, OH  43215).  We’ll send a matching contribution to that candidate, along with a letter indicating that this matching contribution is a direct result of a contribution by the member.
