AIA Ohio Welcomes 2011

With 2010 behind us, AIA Ohio looks forward to the many challenges and opportunities of 2011.  While the organization was able to at least partially address many of the issues presented to us last year, we will again be challenged with new issues and continuing concerns for 2011.  This year, AIA Ohio will be under the leadership of Steve Shinn, AIA who has taken over the helm as president.  Jud Kline, AIA has been elevated to the position of president elect, and Mike Schuster, FAIA will remain as treasurer of the organization.  New to the Executive Committee this year is Elizabeth Murphy, FAIA, who was elected to the position of Board Secretary.  We welcome Elizabeth and look forward to working with her.  Leaving the Executive Board is Paul Hollenbeck, AIA, who served last year as our past president.  We would like to thank Paul for the five years of service on the executive committee and the countless years he had served prior to that on AIA Ohio and as a member of AIA Toledo. Bruce Sekanick, AIA will assume the position of past president and will be the Board representative to the Foundation Board as well as liaison to the Ohio Architects Board.

The state legislature took a “right” turn November 2nd with Republicans taking control of all state offices, both houses of the Ohio General Assembly, the Ohio Supreme Court and the United States Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Advocacy at the Institute: Using the Website

There always seems to be so much information going around at the AIA, that it is sometimes really hard to get an overall idea of the scope of the Institutes efforts in keeping us, as members, informed.  As President, I could probably be included in some type of webinar or conference call at least three times a week. ( That is of course, if I didn’t actually want to get any work done for my real job.)  However, every now and then, I do get the opportunity to join in on a few of the presentations, even if it is to listen in the background and gain a little more knowledge of the Institute and it various programs, committees and departments. After yesterdays Government Advocacy Leadership Briefing, I thought it appropriate at this time of year, to provide a few links to AIA sites that, as members, we might not normally visit. Here are a few:

  • Do you want to know if an AIA member is running for office?  Visit the archipac site and find out which architect, on either the local, state, or federal level is running for office.
  • Do you want to know more about the IGCC, the International Green Construction Code?  Click here to find out more on how AIA is working with others on the development of the IGCC. read more…
