Perspectus is seeking an architect or emerging professional with at least 8 years of professional experience to join a dynamic, design-focused practice specializing in the preservation and adaptive reuse of historic and existing structures. This role combines technical architectural expertise, project management, and preservation planning to protect historic character while meeting modern building, accessibility, and sustainability requirements.
The position provides key architectural support that contributes and brings together ideas and concepts from leadership and the project team into clear and concise design solutions.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manage historic preservation projects through all phases, from assessment and planning to construction administration
- Prepare architectural drawings, specifications, and preservation treatment recommendations
- Develop rehabilitation and adaptive reuse strategies for historic properties
- Ensure compliance with preservation regulations and guidelines, including the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Historic Architecture
- Research building history, materials, and construction techniques
- Conduct building condition assessments, historic structure reports, and architectural investigations
- Coordinate with preservation commissions, state historic preservation offices, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders
- Review contractor submittals and monitor construction activities to ensure preservation objectives are achieved
- Document existing conditions using field surveys, photography, and digital modeling tools
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to business development efforts
Required Qualifications
- Registered Architect or on a path to registration
- Generally familiar with Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
- Knowledge of historic building materials, traditional construction methods, and conservation practices
- Proven track record in the development of design documents and meeting deadlines
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local historic preservation regulations
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
Experience
- Historic tax credit projects and grant-funded preservation programs
- Adaptive reuse, restoration, and conservation projects
- Coordination with State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) and local landmark commissions
Compensation: $65,000 – $80,000 with competitive benefit package
