December Themed Reading: The Meaning of Home
This December, in the spirit of the season, we invite you to explore three titles that reflect on a timeless idea: home.
This month invites reflection, not just on the spaces we live in, but on how those spaces shape our comfort, creativity, and sense of self.
We’ll be reading:
-At Home: A Short History of Private Life by Bill Bryson
–Home: A Short History of an Idea by Witold Rybczynski
–A Place of My Own: The Architecture of Daydreams by Michael Pollan
Together, these titles offer rich perspectives on how the idea of “home” has evolved, historically, culturally, and personally, and what it continues to mean for architects, designers, and daydreamers alike.
To pair with this season of stillness and introspection:
- Mulled Wine – Spiced, warm, and perfect for cozy evenings indoors.
- Vanilla Chai Latte – Comforting and layered, like memories of home.
- Hot Honey Lemon Water – Simple and restorative, ideal for quiet mornings.
- Hazelnut Hot Chocolate – Rich, nostalgic, and best enjoyed under a blanket.
A huge thank you to AIA Cincinnati for sponsoring this month’s reading! As a hub of architectural leadership and community, AIA Cincinnati helps shape not just buildings, but the way we think about place, belonging, and the spaces that bring us together. Their support makes it possible to explore meaningful stories, one title (or three!) at a time.
Limited copies available! Visit AIA Ohio Overdrive and sign in with your AIA Member ID to borrow your selections while they last.

Because home isn’t just where we live. It’s who we are, and how we feel.
