President’s Message

Let me introduce myself. I am John Meegan, AIA, and I am the 2024 President of AIA Ohio.  I have been an active AIA member in Columbus since 1992.

Before looking at the year ahead, I would be remiss to not recognize our immediate Past President John Orsini, AIA, for his leadership and continued efforts for the growth and stability he imparted on our organization.

Under the leadership of our 2021 and 2022 past Presidents, Aaron Hill, AIA, and Karen Planet, AIA, we developed our three-year Strategic Plan.  The goals set forth were illustrated in four specific goals:

  1. Enhance Member Engagement
  2. Expand Government Advocacy
  3. Elevate the Profession
  4. Ensure Organizational Vitality

Our board members have already begun meeting weekly in workgroups to advance our mission based on these focused goals.  We have recently launched an online library available to our members, we are preparing for AIA Ohio’s Advocacy Day scheduled for March 6, 2024.  Advocacy Day is an opportunity for AIA Members to engage with Ohio Legislators on issues relevant to AIA Ohio’s mission and the architectural profession.

In 2023, AIA Ohio returned to convene for a statewide conference in Columbus.  The event was well received and provided an opportunity for awareness, engagement, education and collaboration for our diverse membership. 

Our Membership Engagement Committee has already begun planning for what we anticipate being an event-filled conference scheduled for September 15-17 in Bridge Park, Dublin.  I look forward to seeing you there.

This will be the third year of our planning cycle, as we will meet at the end of the year to review our goals and look toward the needs ahead.  We are excited about the year in front of us as we continue to strive for advancement in the profession.  If any Chapter would like to have leadership from AIA Ohio engage with a local chapter meeting or board meeting, please reach out to us and a representative will accommodate your needs.
