It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through 2026. The year has moved quickly, and as I reflect on the past several months, I’m encouraged by the momentum we’ve built together. Across AIA Ohio, our members continue to volunteer, advocate, and find new ways to strengthen both our profession and the communities we serve. There is a great deal to be proud of, and even more to look forward to in the months ahead.
One of this year’s highlights is the exciting news that AIA Ohio has been awarded a grant through AIA National’s Strategic Plan Activation Fund. This competitive award is more than funding – it’s a recognition of the work we’re doing to advance the profession and a vote of confidence in our vision for the future.
The grant will allow us to expand our 2027 Advocacy Day by incorporating professional development alongside our legislative meetings. By bringing education, leadership, and advocacy together, we’ll create an even more valuable experience for members while strengthening our relationships with Ohio’s policymakers. Effective advocacy requires informed and engaged members, and this investment will help us continue building a strong culture of advocacy across our organization.
This summer also marks another exciting milestone for AIA Ohio.
For the first time, we’ll host a Public Awareness exhibit at the Ohio State Fair. More than 100,000 people are expected to visit the Fair on the day we’ll be there. That’s 100,000 opportunities to tell the story of architecture. Every conversation is a chance to demonstrate how architects improve the places where we live, work, learn, and play, while inspiring future generations to consider architecture as a career.
Public awareness is advocacy in its own right. The more people understand the value architects bring to their communities, the stronger our profession becomes. I want to thank the volunteers who are making this inaugural event possible. Their enthusiasm and commitment are helping us introduce AIA Ohio to thousands of Ohioans, and I hope this becomes the first of many successful appearances at the State Fair.
Looking ahead, I hope you’ll make plans to join us November 12–13 in Columbus for the AIA Ohio Conference. Our annual conference is one of the best opportunities to reconnect with colleagues, earn continuing education, discover new ideas, and celebrate the outstanding work happening across our state. Whether you’re a long-time member or attending for the first time, I know you’ll leave energized by the people and ideas that make AIA Ohio such a strong organization.
As we enter the second half of the year, I’m reminded that the strength of AIA Ohio isn’t found in grants, programs, or events alone – it’s found in our members. Thank you for your time, your expertise, and your willingness to serve. Together, we’re strengthening our profession, expanding our impact, and ensuring that architects continue to have a strong voice throughout Ohio.
Enjoy the rest of your summer. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Ohio State Fair and again in Columbus this November as we continue building momentum together.
