With the 4th of July behind us and summer racing by, we have passed the halfway point of the year, and it has been a busy one. Great time to reach out and provide an update of the goings on at AIA Ohio.
During the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design hosted in Washington DC in June, AIA Ohio was fortunate to have three of our members awarded or elected to service. Erin Reilly-Sanders, AIA, with Schooley Caldwell Architects and Matthew Teismann, AIA, with MKC Architects were awarded the National Young Architects Award. What an incredible honor. Matthew Toddy, AIA, was elected as 2025-2027 At-Large Director for AIA National. Matthew is a Principal at Elevation Studio in Columbus.
In my last update, I noted that during our AIA Ohio Advocacy Day at the Statehouse we met with legislators to discuss the issues listed here:
- Expanding Affordable, Workforce, and Senior Housing Opportunities
- Permanently Expanding Ohio Historic Tax Credits
- Sensible Residential Building Codes
As a follow up, our Government Advocacy Committee has formed an AIA Ohio Affordable Housing Task Force. This group has recently formed with the goal of exploring issues related to affordable housing/housing affordability. This task force is still forming, and I encourage any member who shares an interest to reach out to AIA Ohio and participate.
Of course, fall is right around the corner and our committee is busy making final preparations for the AIA Ohio Conference 2024 themed INTERSECT. This is a great opportunity for Ohio architects, planners and designers to gather, learn and discuss critical issues related to design, architectural resilience, business and industry innovations.
INTERSECT will be held at Bridge Park in Dublin, September 15-17 and will bring more than 200 members of the design community from across the state for tours, keynote speakers and educational programming and is designed to appeal to a broad range of AIA Ohio’s membership. Registration is open so please plan to attend.
