As spring slowly unfolds across Ohio, I continue to be encouraged by the strength and momentum of our architectural community. In conversations with members around the state, one theme consistently stands out: architects are leaders who care deeply about their clients, their craft, and the communities they serve. I continue to be inspired by the talent, leadership, and commitment demonstrated by architects across Ohio every day.
Our work this year continues to be guided by AIA Ohio’s Strategic Plan, centered on four key goals: enhancing member engagement, expanding government advocacy, elevating the profession, and ensuring organizational vitality. Meaningful progress is already underway in each area. Member engagement efforts have expanded through updated social media strategies and member focus groups. In advocacy, we are introducing our new lobbying partner, The Batchelder Company, to local boards across the state as part of a renewed and more proactive strategy. This summer, AIA Ohio will also launch a major public awareness initiative focused on elevating the profession and the value architects bring to our communities. At the same time, important work is underway on bylaws updates and a long-term financial strategic plan to strengthen the organization for the future. I am grateful to the many members, volunteers, and leaders helping move this work forward.
Many thanks to Kent State University for hosting AIA Ohio’s March board meeting! We appreciate your hospitality, and it was great to meet students and see some amazing work. And special thanks to our panelists who shared career advice with the KSU students – it was great to hear your insights.
One of this year’s major initiatives has been the introduction of The Batchelder Company as AIA Ohio’s new lobbying partner and the renewed energy and strategy they bring to our advocacy efforts. As we have “traveled” across the state visiting component board meetings, we’ve had valuable opportunities to share updates on legislative priorities, advocacy initiatives, and the importance of continued engagement with the PAC and grassroots outreach efforts. Thank you for sharing your time with us.
I encourage you to join us for AIA Ohio Advocacy Day on June 3 as we bring architects from across the state together to engage directly with legislators and discuss issues impacting our profession and communities. Whether you are an experienced advocate or participating for the first time, your voice and perspective are important.
I also hope you will make plans to join us for the AIA Ohio Conference in Columbus on November 12–13. The conference remains one of our best opportunities each year to learn from one another, strengthen professional connections, and celebrate the outstanding work happening across Ohio. Want a calendar invitation to hold the dates? Click here and we’ll send you one!
Thank you for the work you do every day in your firms, components, classrooms, job sites, and communities. It is an honor to serve as President of AIA Ohio, and I remain grateful for the leadership, collaboration, and commitment of our members across the state. I look forward to continuing our work together throughout the year ahead.
