AIA Ohio Foundation Student Scholarship Recipients
Bruce Sekanick, FAIA
AIA Ohio Foundation President

There are many things that we do on a regular basis, as architects, that are very rewarding.  Sometimes, that is the completion of a new project that makes a difference to a client or a whole community.  Other times, we might give new life to an old, underutilized historic building.  In each case, our work should have a positive impact on both individuals and the community at large.

In a similar way, the AIA Ohio Foundation has an opportunity each year to help make a difference by helping students achieve their career goals.  Through the AIA Ohio Foundation Scholarships, the Foundation is able to provide funding to each of Ohio’s architectural programs to help support students as they work toward their professional degree.   While the criteria is different for each program, the focus of the Foundation and the schools is to help students continue on the path to becoming members of the profession.

These scholarships are funded through the AIA Ohio Foundation scholarship program, with money for this program coming from AIA Ohio member dues, donations from AIA Ohio members, and through the support of AIA and the AIA Component Matching Scholarship Grant Program.  The AIA Component Matching Program was established in support of the Foundation’s principal focus – to reinforce the role AIA has in preparing the next generation of architects.  Through the effort of the Foundation’s Executive Director, Kate Brunswick, CAE, Hon. AIA, the Foundation has been fortunate to receive funding from AIA, through this grant, on a regular, ongoing basis.  AIA Ohio Foundation funds, along with the AIA grant, are important components to making scholarships available to students in each of the five architectural programs in Ohio.

In 2023, the AIA Ohio Foundation, in cooperation with the schools, has provided scholarships to five students in three programs.  These recipients include:

Eduardo Hidalgo                  -Bowling Green State University

Madeline Montgomery      -Bowling Green State University

Will Monroe                          -Miami University

Zerin Promee                        -Miami University

Isaiah Zuercher                    -The University of Cincinnati

The Foundation would like to congratulate these students as recipients of the Foundation scholarships. The Foundation looks forward toward providing additional scholarships as the schools submit requests to participate in our scholarship program.  A core principle of the AIA Ohio Foundation is its responsibility to help students realize their dreams and to become part of the profession.

We thank the members of AIA Ohio for your support of the Foundation’s efforts, and we look to continue and expand our efforts in the future.
