With the new year already well underway, AIA Ohio continues to build on a strong advocacy presence—advancing legislation and regulatory efforts introduced last year while responding to new challenges emerging in 2026. As our work moves forward, we’re doing so with fresh partnerships, renewed focus, and updated strategies designed to better serve our members and the profession.

AIA Ohio Lobbyists
As recently announced, AIA Ohio has partnered with The Batchelder Company to serve as the organization’s lobbying team for 2026 and beyond. In today’s rapidly shifting political landscape, AIA Ohio is prioritizing a clear, consistent, and influential voice on advocacy issues. The Batchelder Company brings extensive experience representing associations of similar size and scope, strengthening our presence at the Statehouse. At the same time, long-time lobbyist Luther Liggett remains an integral part of AIA Ohio’s advocacy efforts, working closely with members and staff on agency rules and regulations. Together, this combined expertise and energy position AIA Ohio to more effectively respond to member needs.

AIA Ohio Advocacy News
You may have already noticed a new addition to AIA Ohio communications this year: Advocacy News. Launched by the AIA Ohio Government Advocacy Committee, this concise newsletter is designed to keep members informed about proposed legislation, updates to state documents, and evolving agency rules and regulations. Advocacy impacts our profession in more ways than many realize, and this publication ensures members stay informed on the issues that matter most. The latest edition, released February 3, includes an invitation to join our new lobbyists for a Zoom discussion on February 25, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. Registration is required to receive the access link, and the program has been submitted to AIA CES for 1.0 LU.

Advocacy Day
With both new and ongoing issues shaping the year ahead, AIA Ohio’s Advocacy Day has become one of the organization’s most impactful events. Scheduled for June 3, 2026, we ask members to do one simple thing now: save the date. Advocacy Day provides an opportunity for members to meet directly with legislators or legislative staff to discuss issues that affect the profession. From tax credits to codes and standards, the Government Advocacy Committee is actively working to ensure the profession’s voice is heard.

Political Action Committee
Just as architects rely on CAD, BIM, and surveys to do their work effectively, advocacy also requires the right tools. The Ohio Architects PAC is one of those tools. By supporting legislators who align with our priorities, the PAC helps AIA Ohio build relationships that advance the profession’s needs and concerns. To make this work, member participation is essential. Contributions of any size make a difference and strengthen our collective voice. Donations can be made through the Ohio Architects PAC page on the AIA Ohio website.

The AIA Ohio Government Advocacy Committee looks forward to a year of meaningful engagement—one that strengthens our firms, supports our members, and advances the architectural profession across Ohio.
